Athletics General Info

2024/25 School Year

  • The first games are on Thursday, September 5th.
  • Madison Garcia is the Girls Volleyball Coach and Makayla Weaver is the Co-Ed Football Coach and they are teaming up with our Expanded Learning Program Teaching Fellows.
  • Karina Ramirez is the Sports Coordinator for Heaton Sports this School year, and all student-athletes will participate in a Study Session before practice each day.

Sports Update 9/9/2024

New this year, the Heaton Expanded Learning Program will be coordinating and supervising all Heaton Sports.

  • All Heaton Student-Athletes will become part of the Expanded Learning Program during their sport.
  • Students must adhere to all School and Expanded Learning Program behavior expectations while participating in their sport or risk losing the privilege.
  • Students participating in Co-Ed Football and Girls Volleyball will first participate in a 20-minute Study Session in Room 26 (Volleyball) and Room 27 (Football) from 2:50-3:10 before heading out to practice.

  • Practices are held on Mondays-Wednesdays with games on Thursdays
  • Only student-athletes whose parents/guardians have attended the Parent/Guardian Sports meeting will be eligible to play in the games.

We had very exciting Girls and Boys Basketball Games on Thursday. The Girls have dominated all season and have won all their games, and the boys played on Thursday and almost had a comeback. All played with great sportsmanship, which is what matters most!

Girls Volleyball players showed good citizenship even after a tough loss on Oct 3rd, Thursday.

Sports Eligibility and Guidelines

Student Participation

In order for students to participate in Athletics; health insurance is required and must complete the AB 25 Concussion Requirement form.

Schools

Not fielding a team, please email Tina.Gonzales@fresnounified.org.  Be sure to contact your League Commissioner as well, so your school may be removed from the schedule.  Please confirm date and time of each game each week.  Winning team must report scores to their league commissioners.

Transportation

Scheduling Transportation is no longer automatic.  If you need, please contact Transportation at 457-3138.  Due to early release, during the week, games are to be played on Friday’s.  If you need to have a weekday game, attempt to use private auto.  Should you use a bus during the week, please keep in mind due to early release, your school risk being picked up/dropped off late.  A coach/administrator must accompany students on the bus.

Verification Voucher

Please have coach verify, after each game, if an official was present or not.  At the end of each season, send voucher to Tina/Athletics.  Vouchers are needed for billing purposes (not utilized for Cross Country & Track).

Officials

Officials are provided and paid for by K-12 Athletics Department.  However, due to staffing, there might not be enough officials for every game.  So please have in place a back up person to officiate the game.  Should you need to cancel a game, contact the official’s organization at 905-3018 or 299-2690 by 10am of that date, Failure to do so will result in a charge.  Also email Tina.Gonzales@fresnounified.org for billing purposes.   If you did not cancel an official prior to deadline, and an official shows up, he is entitled to pay.  Therefore, another official will not be assigned to your make-up game.

2023/24 School Year

Boys and Girls Basketball Team Practices are Mondays-Wednesdays with Coach Nick and
Coach Jonathan for the Boys and Coach Lorraine for the Girls Team.
Games are on Thursdays. Girls and Boys Basketball Finals games on Thursday, February 22nd

Cheer Team Practices will resume on Tuesday and Thursday mornings during 5th grade P.E. with Coach
Lorraine.

Track & Field is the next sport coming up and students in grades 3rd through 6th can participate. Coach
Lorraine and Coach Jonathan will be the coaches for Track. Stayed tuned for tryout dates!

Our Boys Basketball Team

played well on Saturday beating Manchester GATE and then Kratt in their first two games. They almost rallied back in their third game against Easterby, but they just ran out of time! They had a great season!
