Welcome to the 2023-2024 School Year Heaton Families!

Welcome to the 2023-2024 School Year, Heaton Families!
We are looking forward to an exciting year of learning, as we focus on all students reading by the end of First Grade, and all students practicing their critical thinking and problem-solving skills through real-world Math Tasks.
Students in Kindergarten through Sixth grade will engage in our newly adopted Science curriculum this year. It is sure to promote student curiosity in the world around them!
Our three focus areas this school year include reducing chronic absenteeism by encouraging students to be on time to school, reducing misbehaviors by providing social-emotional lessons and supports, and ensuring all students make academic progress each year in math, reading and writing.
At Heaton, students participate in daily Morning Meetings and Second Step lessons to develop important real-world skills, such as self-awareness and empathy, for their future success. We also adhere to the schoolwide P.A.W.S. Expectations in and outside of school, which are: Practice Respect, Act Responsibly, make Wise Choices and always think of Safety First.
We will continue to offer student field trips in TK-6th grades, and 4th-6th graders can participate in our music program, which includes Choir, Band and Strings.
School-based sports are open to 5th and 6th graders, and Cross Country and Track are open to 3rd-6th graders.
Students who are engaged in school do better, so we plan to offer more in-school and after-school clubs, such as Drama, and weekly PAWS Clubs that promote the arts, physical fitness, and further develop students’ interests.
We continue to create pride in our school site by adding new Heaton Bulldog designs to our cafeteria and exterior walls, and last Spring we added a new digital marquee for increased communication with our Heaton community.
With all this, we plan to develop stronger relationships with our families to be side-by-side partners with us. Ways our families can get involved include becoming a parent volunteer, chaperoning field trips, participating on School Site Council and on the English Learners Advisory Committee, and supporting with school-wide events, and much more.
Be sure we have your updated contact information in Atlas, so that we can communicate with you through Parent Square and the Atlas Portal.
